Oprah says there's only one thing that could make her run for president

Oprah Winfrey has repeatedly quelled rumors that she's considering running for president in 2020, but in a new interview with People, the daytime television pioneer revealed that there's actually one thing that could make her run for office.

"I went into prayer," Winfrey said. "'God if you think I'm supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be clear that not even I can miss it.' And I haven't gotten that."

Speculation that Oprah could run for president has been rampant for years, but calls for her to officially launch a campaign reached fever pitch in January following her rousing, much-lauded acceptance speech at the Golden Globe Awards. Best friend Gayle King publicly questioned the rumors, while husband Stedman Graham's quote that she was considering a run was reportedly taken out of context.

Despite the calls for her to run, Oprah ultimately said on "60 Minutes" that it just didn't feel like the right move for her.

"It's just not in my spirit," she continues. "It's not my DNA."

"I've never looked outside for other people to tell me when I should be making a move," she explained. "And wouldn’t I know? If God wanted me to run, wouldn't God tell me? I haven't heard that. I'd feel that I have a responsibility as a person who has a big voice in this country to use it to promote justice and kindness and good will in the world. It never has felt to me that that I was supposed to be political and it still does not feel that to me."

Oprah revealed to People that King and other famous friends suggested that she deeply consider getting into politics, going so far as to reach out offering to finance her potential campaign.

"I had people -- wealthy, billionaires -- calling me up and saying, 'I can get you a billion dollars. I can run your campaign,'" she revealed. "That many people saying something made me think, 'Am I at least supposed to look at the question?'"

At the end of the day, though, the daytime television mogul insisted that she was "just trying to give a good speech" while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement, and it surprised her how well it was received around the world.

"When I walked off with Reese [Witherspoon], I thought, 'I got that done,'" she says. "It wasn’t until I was back in the press room that they said, 'Do you realize you’re trending?'"
