Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley call for unity, slam Trump in CMAs opener: 'Maybe next time he'll think before he tweets!'

Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley kicked off their tenth consecutive hosting gig at the 2017 CMA Awards with a slew of zingers in typical, musical fashion. The co-hosting duo took aim at their fellow country stars -- most notably Faith Hill and Tim McGraw -- as well as President Donald Trump.

In their opening segment's most memorable moment, Underwood and Paisley reworded the lyrics to Underwood's hit "Before He Cheats" to address the president's tweeting habit.

"Right now, he's probably in his PJ's, watching cable news and reaching for his cell phone," they sang. "He's probably asking Siri, 'How in the hell do you spell Pocahontas?'"

"Maybe next time he'll think ... before he tweets!" the rejiggered chorus went.

The musical moment came after Paisley and Underwood playfully alluded to the fact that the Country Music Academy had reportedly asked the media to refrain from asking stars about politics and the Las Vegas shooting. The organization quickly reversed the media ban after Paisley called them out on Twitter for the controversial move.

In their opener, the country singers mentioned notable politicians like Anthony Scaramucci, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

It wasn't all zingers, though. The pair also called for unity amid increasing violence and division in our country.

"This has been a year marked by tragedy," they said. "Tonight we are going to do what families do: Come together, pray together, cry together and sing together too."

"The best way to honor our fans is to play our music loud and proud," they continued. "Our music lifts people up and thats what we're here to do tonight. This year's show is dedicated to all of those who we've lost and all of those who are still healing. We love you and we'll never forget you."
