Report claims that Olivia Newton-John's missing former boyfriend may have been found after 12 years

Olivia Newton-John’s former boyfriend Patrick McDermott is reportedly alive and well in Mexico after going missing 12 years ago, Australian paper New Idea reports.

According to the explosive report -- which includes photos that allegedly serve as "proof of life" -- claims that McDermott faked his own death, but US-based investigative journalists "tracked down" the man to Sayulita, a small town in Mexico.

According to the Independent, Newton-John had previously been distraught over her former lover’s bizarre disappearance. McDermott, a Los Angeles-based cameraman, disappeared on a 2005 fishing trip off the coast of California.

Some speculated he drowned, but Dateline NBC claimed McDermott disappeared to avoid debts -- including $8,000 he allegedly owed to his ex-wife for child support.

Now a detective believes new photos that have surfaced are of McDermott, even though authorities closed the case -- and effectively declared him dead -- back in 2008.

"The widow’s peak is exact," Charlie Parker told New idea. "The eyes are very similar and the ears extend down on the head in the same distance. I believe it’s him."

Newton-John married her second husband John Easterling in 2008, and she's currently battling breast cancer.
