Lena Dunham posts completely nude photo of herself on Instagram

Updated

Lena Dunham posted a naked photo on Instagram as a message to body shamers.

The "Girls" star shared the picture late on Thursday night that shows her entire, nude body from her thighs to her shoulders. The racy, faceless snap features three emojis -- one giant pot of honey and two pears -- that cover her private areas as to make the post Instagram-appropriate.

Though Dunham has posted similar photos online before, her latest one feels particularly defiant in the face of people who have criticized her body.

"Just wanted to share that one of the reasons @eatingboys has inspired me so much is because of the way she mixes her humor and sexuality," she captioned the risqué photo. "I spent so many years loving my body but thinking it wasn't lovable by others -- its sole purpose was to be fodder for jokes. I performed the insult so no one else could."

"I don't regret any of it," she continued. "That's my art and that was my truth -- but now, at age 31, having been through hell and back with my health and other people's perceptions of my physicality, I feel deeply comfortable with the idea that this pear-shaped pot of honey is equally good for making people laugh and laying out like a Suicide Girl circa 2004. Love it all."

Dunham has long been outspoken about her willingness to appear nude on social media and on her show, "Girls," which recently wrapped after six seasons on HBO. Throughout the show's run, Dunham frequently appeared naked despite constant pushback from viewers and critics alike -- clearly, she still isn't fazed!
