Charlie Murphy tweeted cryptic message right before he died

Hours before he passed away, Charlie Murphy tweeted a cryptic message that will break your heart.

The comedian lost his battle with leukemia on Wednesday at the age of 57, but at 10 p.m. the night before, he tweeted an inspiring message that -- in hindsight -- reads as foreboding, too.

"One to Sleep On," Murphy tweeted. "Release the past to rest as deeply as possible."

Murphy, who was Eddie Murphy's older brother, skyrocketed to fame during his time on Dave Chappelle's skit show on Comedy Central, "Chappelle Show." He was most remembered for a particularly funny Rick James short. During his time on the show, Charlie drew inspiration from the legendary stories he had from being Eddie's bodyguard during the late '80s.

After news broke of Charlie's death, Eddie and the rest of their family released an emotional statement to mourn their heartbreaking loss.

"Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle and friend Charlie," they said. "Charlie filled our family with love and laughter and there won't be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers. We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us."

Charlie had lost his wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy, to cervical cancer back in 2009. They shared two children together, Xavier, 18, and Eva, 11. Charlie had another son, 31, from a previous relationship.
