Harry Styles to make solo 'Saturday Night Live' debut on April 15

Updated

It's real. It's happening. Harry Styles has risen.

The ex-One Direction star is officially slated to take the "Saturday Night Live" stage as the show's musical guest on April 15. He'll appear alongside host Jimmy Fallon, the show announced via Twitter on Tuesday -- and Fallon himself couldn't be more excited.

"So excited!!! A young heartthrob and Harry Styles will be on SNL together April 15th!" Fallon tweeted, adding #WhenHarryMetJimmy.

Fans expected Styles to launch a solo career, but until just this past week, the timeline was unknown. Styles has stayed hushed about nearly every detail, keeping a low profile both in person and online: He's rarely been snapped by paparazzi in the past year, and he's all but disappeared from social media.

Then, a few days ago, an unexpected TV ad offered a glimpse into his new project. The cryptic video shows just a flash of Styles' green eyes before text reading, "April 7," the date his first single will drop.

Styles is set to become a multi-hyphenate in Hollywood as he also has a role in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film "Dunkirk," which premieres this summer.

The Styles updates come as a gift to millions of fans still reeling from One Direction's "hiatus," which began a full year ago. Members Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have both embarked on solo ventures, as has ex-member Zayn Malik, who quit the band in 2015. Liam Payne, while also expected to create his own music, is a bit preoccupied: He just welcomed a baby with girlfriend Cheryl Cole.
