Jimmy Kimmel's 2016 Emmys opening features cameos, jokes and jabs galore

"Are we ready to make the Emmys great again?"

That's how Jimmy Kimmel ended his hilarious opening monologue during Sunday night's 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, riffing on Donald Trump's now-infamous campaign slogan just after placing the blame on Trump's success during the 2016 election on one person in the room.

"He's responsible if Donald Trump gets elected and he builds that wall," Kimmel said as he pointed to Mark Burnett, who produced Trump's reality show "The Apprentice." "The first person we're throwing over it is Mark Burnett. The tribe has spoken."

That wasn't the only allusion to the election that Kimmel made, though. During a sketch that preceded his monologue, the comedian spoofed a slew of shows as he carpooled in O.J. Simpson's Bronco, the "Modern Family" crew's minivan, James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke" Range Rover and "Veep"'s President Selina Meyer's limo.

As Kimmel slid into the presidential vehicle, the car's driver was revealed to be none-other than 2016 Republican presidential hopeful, Jeb Bush. That's right, clad in a driver's uniform, Bush joked around with Kimmel, poking fun at his failed bid at the presidency.

"If you run a positive campaign," Bush explained to Kimmel. "The voters will ultimately make the right choice."

"Jimmy, that was a joke!"

After kicking Kimmel out of the car, Bush said to himself, "Jeb exclamation point" as a reference to his much-maligned campaign logo.

During his monologue, Kimmel also poked fun at "The People v. O.J. Simpson" stars Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr.

"I'd like to acknowledge the winner of this night's 'plus one' contest, Sarah Paulson," Kimmel said, referencing Paulson's decision to bring Marcia Clark with her to the ceremony. "Now, that's a guest!"

"Everyone in L.A. knows that if you want to win, sit next to Marcia Clark," he joked. "Are you rooting for O.J. to win this time?"

Kimmel also touched upon the much-discussed topic of diversity, which was of particular scrutiny following the famously un-diverse 2016 Academy Awards in February.

"This year's nominees are the most diverse ever," he explained. "Here in Hollywood, the only thing we value more than diversity is congratulating ourself on how much we value diversity."
