Why Jerry Seinfeld waited 18 years to return to the Emmys

Jerry Seinfeld dropped a bombshell on the 2016 Emmys red carpet on Sunday night.

While talking to E!'s Giuliana Rancic, Seinfeld revealed that his appearance at the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards was his first Emmys appearance in 18 years.

That's right, Jerry Seinfeld last attended the Emmys in 1998!

"I'm not on TV!" Seinfeld exclaimed when Rancic asked for an explanation for his almost two-decade absence. Fair enough, but you'd think that Emmys organizers would want to invite the television legend back every year to at least be a presenter, right?!

Seinfeld has been keeping busy over the past couple of years, focusing especially on his hit web series, "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee."

Rancic also asked Seinfeld if he ever watches old episodes of "Seinfeld" when he's flipping through the channels late at night. His answer? Absolutely not.

"You ever pull our your high school yearbook and go, 'Let me relive those four years! That was great!,'" he joked. "Never! Once you do something, you do it."

When pushed further he admitted, "Sometimes I'll watch, like, 20 seconds."

Well, there you have it, folks. We're glad to see you back at the Emmys, Jerry!
