The Olympics In Numbers

Every two years, the moment we have all been waiting for arrives... the Olympics. Each Olympics is different but always brings a rollercoaster of joy, heartbreak and athleticism that we can't get enough of.

To qualify as a member of the Olympic team is quite a feat in and of itself, but to win gold is an even more impressive task. Athletes from all over the world with a unique combination of athletic prowess, unbridled dedication, and a love for their sport come together in hopes of earning the title of the best in the world. Team USA won 46 gold medals, 28 of those were won by the 292 American women.

From Simone Manuel becoming the first African American to win gold in an individual swimming event to Michelle Carter becoming the first American woman to win in shot put, Rio has truly been a platform for women in sports. Even though there were several unfortunate instances during the Games of sexist comments aimed at women, like Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky, the athletes proved every critic wrong with their unstoppable performances. We hope these amazingly talented women's achievements inspire more young women to pursue their dreams, and that the next Olympics will have a new record of female athletes vying for Olympic gold.
