A new study shows that users of the dating app Tinder appear to have lower levels of self-esteem.

Users also appear to have a more negative perception of body image than those who don't use the app.

The University of North Texas asked men and women about their use of Tinder as well as about their body image, sociocultural factors, perceived objectification and psychological well-being.

Both male and female users reported less satisfaction with their bodies and looks than non-users.

But only male Tinder users reported lower levels of self-esteem.

The study was primarily aimed towards women and their perception of objectification, but the results show that men are just as affected by exploitation and low self-esteem as women, if not more.

Tinder use was found to be associated with body dissatisfaction, body shame, body monitoring and internalization of societal expectations of beauty.

The popular dating app is used by nearly 50 million people.

While users tended to have lower self-esteem, this doesn't necessarily mean that the app is causing it. It could be that people with lower self-esteem are drawn more to these types of apps

Either way, you should swipe with caution!
