5 Ways to Garden Party at Buckingham Palace Like a Pro (Hint: Go for the Finger Sandwiches First!)

Prince William attended his first-ever Garden Party today, accompanied by Duchess Kate who was a vision in ivory. Greeting guests on the Buckingham Palace lawn is old hat for the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, and even for Kate, but the future King has yet to join them in the series of summer parties thrown each year.

The Duke of Cambridge was all dolled up in a tuxedo, tails and a top hat, with his wife Kate wearing the Alexander McQueen dress we first saw at Prince George's christening.

Kate's ivory Alexander McQueen look is one we won't soon forget, and it's the perfect formal ensemble for the occasion. She topped her look off with a fascinator and a new pair of nude suede pumps that look to be Gianvito Rossi.

Each year, guests consume thousands of cups of tea, cakes and sandwiches as they walk the garden and wait for the Queen to join the party. A military band plays the National Anthem as she and the royal family make their way through guests (greeting previously-chosen individuals) on their way to a private tent.

Kate and William seemed to be in high spirits today as they mingled with guests. Click through above to see more!
