Ted Cruz did the Ice Bucket Challenge wearing a JJ Watt jersey

Updated

Pretty much everywhere you looked on social media in the summer of 2014, people were posting videos of the Ice Bucket Challenge.

That includes multiple 2016 presidential candidates -- among them Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Cruz is joined by his wife, Heidi, and their two children, who finish off the video by pushing their dad into the pool.

Cruz, a native of Houston, Texas, even nominated local NFL star JJ Watt of the Houston Texans. He apparently wasn't the only one -- Watt tweeted at the time that he was too busy with camp to participate, donating $5,000 to the cause instead.

Cruz wasn't the only 2016 presidential candidate to join the trend. Then-reality star and current-GOP front-runner Donald Trump was joined by Miss Universe and Miss USA in his video:

Trump's GOP rival, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, also joined in, dedicating his effort to the memory of his friends 'taken by that awful disease.'
