Best and worst dressed of awards season 2016

WORST: We LOVE Jane Fonda, but the top of her Golden Globes dress reminds us far too much of terracotta roofing.

BEST: Alicia Vikander wearing Valentino might be our very best dressed of the Golden Globes. The actress was the picture of class in the stunning pleated white creation.

BEST: Lily James was a vision in Marchesa at the Golden Globes. The soft draping of the chiffon gown looked absolutely lovely on the Downton Abbey actress.

WORST: Poison ivy, is that you? We're always into boho-glam looks, but Melissa McCarthy's safari-inspired dress at the Critics' Choice Awards was too much. We will give her style points for how well her dress looks against her bright red locks.

BEST: Leave it to Rachel McAdams to totally steal the spotlight at the Oscars in a sea of A-listers. The gorgeous actress was a total knockout in an emerald halter dress with a dramatic train and sexy slit.  (Photo by Todd Williamson/Getty Images)

BEST: Wowzas! Marisa Tomei did green sequins right at the SAGs in this breathtaking, rich-looking sequined gown with a plunging neckline and thin accent belt.

WORST: We are not digging Julianne Moore's radioactive green sequins at the SAGs, and the gown's silhouette isn't doing her any favors, either.

BEST: Kate Bosworth's sparkling Dolce & Gabbana gown at the Golden Globes is still taking our breath away.

WORST:  All we can say is no! Manika channeled a Vegas showgirl at the Grammys in this outrageous, nearly nude ensemble. The silver fringe barely covered her lady parts in the front (and didn't at all in the back!) and was very close to a wardrobe malfunction. (Photo by John Shearer/WireImage)

BEST: Selena Gomez showed up in a figure-hugging, sparkler of a dress with cutouts on either side and a revealing neckline. Hoop earrings and bombshell waves completed her killer Grammys look.

WORST: "Room" star Brie Larson looked just about ready for the homecoming dance at the Oscars in a ruffled, cobalt gown with a thick, embellished accent belt that erred on the side of cheesy. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic)

BEST: Jenna Dewan Tatum is perpetually on our best dressed list -- and we loved the Zuhair Murad gown she donned at the Golden Globes!

BEST: Dressing a baby bump is no easy feat, but Liv Tyler did it perfectly in a classic black, satin gown with a blouson top and form-fitting skirt with a sexy slit. Her red lips and sideswept locks took the look from pretty to insanely gorgeous.

Check out this affordable sleek black maternity dress.

WORST: We're not sure what Amy Poehler was aiming for when she slipped on this black gown with colorful, floral embroidery for the Oscars. (Photo by Todd Williamson/Getty Images)

WORST: Actress Lori Petty definitely stood out from the SAG crowd in a powder pink, strappy, straightjacket-like getup for all the wrong reasons.

BEST: Hot hot hot! Ellie Goulding looked simple and sexy in this pale pink dress with a diamond back at the Grammy Awards.

WORST: Katy Perry seemed to be trying to channel Priscilla Presley with this look at the Golden Globes -- but it didn't quite pay off.

BEST: YES JLAW. This Dior gown Jennifer Lawrence chose for the Globes is one of our favorites she's worn in recent years.

BEST: No surprise here -- Charlize Theron nailed it again at the Oscars in a gorgeous red mermaid gown with a sleek train, sexy straps and plunging neckline that was accented by a long, drop diamond necklace. (Photo by Todd Williamson/Getty Images)

WORST: While Keith Urban looked chic and sophisticated, Kidman looked like a gypsy Barbie at the SAGs in a pink and purple striped, ruffled gown and gaudy layered necklaces.

BEST: Olivia Wilde was stunning in this sparkling wine-colored Michael Kors number for the Globes.

BEST: Zendaya looked elegant yet youthful at the Golden Globes in this tiered Marchesa gown.

WORST: Christina Hendricks is a total bombshell, but she looked a bit washed out and overpowered in this voluminous, pale brocade gown at the SAG Awards.

BEST: Forget Fargo, Kirsten Dunst just made a mad dash for the best-dressed category! Dunst looked spectacular in a 1920s' ruffled gown with beaded details and satin slippers at the Critics' Choice Awards. A sleek bob and dark lips completed her blast-from-the-past look.

Try out the tiered trend here.

BEST: Actress Daisy Ridley looked totally classic at the Oscars in a gorgeous silver, ankle-length dress. A sheer hemline and subtle peplum added interesting focal points to otherwise completely beaded frock. Dainty slippers, diamond accessories complemented the look perfectly, while a red lip added a glamorous pop of color.  (Photo by Jason Merritt/Getty Images)
WORST: Between the wild print, collar and cape, Manta Ray's gold dress at the Oscars had a little too much going on. (ANGELA WEISS/AFP/Getty Images)

Once "Spotlight" took home Best Picture at the Academy Awards, and the credits began to roll, we bid a bittersweet goodbye to this year's much-buzzed-about awards season.

With a lackluster Golden Globes and a scandal-ridden Oscars, perhaps the one thing that tied the string of seemingly never-ending awards ceremonies for TV, music and movies was the red carpet fashion.

Between the glitzy Golden Globes, toned-down Critics' Choice and SAG Awards, wild Grammys and glamorous Oscars, both lust-worthy styles and bizarre looks kept the fashion police busy. While Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman both donned eyesore frocks on the red carpet, Alicia Vikander and Selena Gomez proved to be true style stars.
