If you want to stop eating junk food, just take a long look in the mirror. Unhealthy food tastes worse when you see yourself eating it!
Researchers found people who ate unhealthy food found it less tasty if they looked at themselves eating it in the mirror. Looking at yourself eating a calorie filled cheeseburger or sloppy slice of pizza makes you much more aware that you should be eating a healthier option.
At the University of Central Florida, 185 students were given a choice between chocolate cake and a fruit salad and then evaluated the taste of their choice in a room with mirrors and a room with no mirrors.
Great healthy snacks to opt for instead:
The people who chose the cake found it "less tasty" in the room with the mirror than they did in the room with no mirrors, but the mirror had no effect on the taste of the fruit salad.
The lead scientist said "A glance in the mirror tells people more than just about their physical appearance. It enables them to view themselves objectively and helps them to judge themselves and their behaviors in a same way that they judge others."
So, the next time you tear into a taco, just think about how you look doing it, and you may take a step back.
