Duchess Kate glitters in Princess Diana's favorite tiara for diplomatic reception
The Duchess of Cambridge is one of those women who exudes elegance, especially when she's all dolled up for an event. And call us distracted by the sparkly, but our favorite Kate style moments are definitely those that involve a tiara. Tonight also happens to be only the fourth time she's worn one since becoming a member of the royal family.
The Duke and Duchess joined the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall at the annual diplomatic reception Tuesday night for more than 1,000 guests at Buckingham Palace. The reception is what's considered a "white tie" event, also known as full evening dress, meaning the men wear a white bow tie and a black tailcoat and women wear long formal gowns and a tiara if they own one.
The royal family definitely isn't short on tiaras, but this is the first time we've seen Kate wear this one in particular. Tonight's glittering jewel is called the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara, and was a favorite of the late Princess Diana, so it has quite a bit of sentimental value for Kate and William.
Kate wore a powder blue Alexander McQueen gown (which we've only ever seen from the shoulders up tonight, and when she first wore it to the diplomatic reception in 2013) and looked as she always does for formal engagements, like a true princess. The last time we saw Kate don a tiara was in October when the royals welcomed the President of China to Buckingham Palace for a State Banquet. The choice for that evening was the Lotus Flower tiara and a red gown by Jenny Packham.
