The R&B superstar was on CBS This Morning Monday to announce the 2016 Grammy nominations -- and the former winner revealed a surprise of her own.

Apparently, when John Mayer won a Grammy for "Daughters" in 2004, he felt that Keys should have won for her song, "If I Ain't Got You."

Mayer knew actions would speak louder than words, so he actually gave Keys the trophy portion of his award and wrote her name across the front of the gold record player -- hence her unofficial 16th Grammy.

As Keys put it, "As far as I'm concerned, I won that -- thanks to John!"
