Alexander Wang's 'no concept' spring 2016 collection redefined modern edge

Updated

For his 10th anniversary collection at New York Fashion Week, Alexander Wang threw himself a scene straight out of a rock concert. With front-row A-listers including Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Bella Hadid and The Weeknd as well as performances by Lil Wayne and Ludacris, Wang mixed fashion and entertainment with an edgy, laid-back, youthful and rebellious dynamic.

Wang proved that he is back and bigger than ever after his July announcement that he and Balenciaga will not be renewing their three-year contract. With expectations soaring for his spring 2016 collection, Wang's "no concept" clothing re-defined modernity with a complete lack of pretense. Backstage, the designer stated, "We're always asking ourselves what's modern. Well, what's modern is what's right in front of us."

Army themes emerged consistently throughout Wang's deconstructed denim, slip dress, and bomber jacket-clad collection. With oversize hoodies, fishnet tops and fringe-infused getups, the collection included all the cool, trendy street styles millennials want to wear. In true New York City spirit, the collection mostly strayed away from color save for a few bold red numbers.
