Hollywood's preference for younger leading ladies has drawn some criticism as of late. Amy Schumer and Emma Thompson have both voiced their disdain.

Anne Hathaway recounted her recent experiences in an interview with Glamour UK.

The 32-year-old has noticed she's been missing out on roles a bit more often than she used to, but says she can't complain since she once benefitted from the youth-centric system.

Hathaway noted, "When I was in my early 20s, parts would be written for women in their 50s and I would get them. And now I'm in my early 30s, and I'm like, 'Why did that 24-year-old get that part?' I was that 24-year-old once. I can't be upset about it; it's the way things are."

Perhaps she's just letting her art speak for itself. Hathaway's next film, The Intern, is a comedy that focuses on workplace ageism—alongside much older co-star Robert De Niro.
