Quarterback Takes Friend with Down Syndrome to Prom After 4th Grade Promise

Ben Moser met Mary Lapkowicz when the two were in second grade. Ben noticed that Mary, who has Down Syndrome, was being left out by the other kids at school. He reached out to her and they became fast friends.

When the two were in fourth grade, Ben promised Mary that when they got to high school, he would take her to prom. One of their teachers, Trace Spogli, told PennLive:

"He watched over her constantly. If she was looking like she wasn't having fun, he would go over and talk to her. He would pull her in to whatever activity they were doing. He just always watched out for her."

Unfortunately, the two friends ended up at different schools by the time they reached sixth grade. They completely lost touch. After they parted ways, Ben became the star quarterback on his high school football team and Mary became her high school football team's equipment manager.

Mary and Ben met for the first time in years when their two teams played against one another. Ben never forgot his promise to Mary.

That year, he took her as his date to prom. Take a look at some of the adorable prom pics that are winning the hearts of people all over the Internet.

Ben and Mary have a unique and special friendship. We're glad to see it re-established after all these years!
