Oh Nutella, buddy ol' pal. You can essentially do no wrong. From being deliciously melted on a piece of multigrain toast to being beautifully stuffed into a succulent doughnut, to your natural state of just plain chocolatey heaven served on a silver spoon, your efforts are always appreciated by the masses.

From your humble Italian beginnings, to your current worldwide domination, there is one debate you center that never seems to completely die. How do we pronounce your glorious name?


The Independent's i100 blog caught wind of the match (tweet) that re-lit this ongoing dispute:



In turn, BuzzFeed reporter, Tom Chivers did a little digging:


It only seems logical that because the infamous spread is made primarily from sweetened hazelnuts, that the correct pronunciation is "nuh-tell-a" right?

WRONG.

The FAQ section of the official Nutella website, gives us the the actual lowdown:

BuzzFeed contacted the company and a correspondent said ultimately, they don't wish to tie any part of the world down to any certain pronunciation, they just go by the most prominent pronunciation in the area.
