Justin Bieber is the first to break 'No Selfie' rule at 2015 Met Gala

Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian Break Selfie Ban at Met Gala

While taking selfies is the most important thing in the world to some stars, guests attending the 2015 Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute gala were banned from snapping them during the event.

But what do the rules of mere mortals mean to celebs? Not a whole lot, apparently, because plenty of selfies were taken anyway. So who was the first to break the ban? Obviously it was Justin Bieber.

VIDEO: 6 Met Gala Moments That You Just Need to Remember Again

The young singer got close with some of his superstar friends who were also attending the event and managed to snap a few pics to commemorate the event.

Here is his with his pal, supermodel Cara Delevingne...

And here he is with ARTPOP artist Lady Gaga...

To Bieber's credit, those stars were also breaking the rule, so he's not the only one. In fact, after posing with Bieber, Delevingne and a whole bunch of other famous ladies piled into the bathroom to take selfies in the mirror like it was a high school prom.

The rule, which was allegedly imposed by Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, clearly wasn't very effective. For it to really work, the event would have had to ban phones, but then no one would have shown up.

And can you blame them for wanting to take group pics when everyone was looking great and wearing the best clothes they'd be dressed in all year?

Just look at Bieber's amazing suit jacket! It's covered in golden dragons in honor of the gala's 2015 theme "China: Through the Look Glass," which is meant to be a celebration of China's artistic fashion legacy.

It was a chance for Beiber to look cool and show off his cool new blonde hair 'do. The guy was going to snap some selfies.

Amazingly Kim Kardashian actually managed to refrain from posting selfies for a while, until she ran into Lady Gaga and Cher, who Kim said was the inspiration for her totally see-through gown.

The annual Met Gala is the one of the biggest events in fashion every year, and often finds itself at the center of industry controversy and commentary. Check out the video below for a look at six of the biggest Met Gala moments from recent years.

Best: Sienna Miller in Thakoon

Sienna Miller always kills it on the red carpet, and tonight's look was no different. We're all about the fringed beading on her two-piece ensemble.

Worst: Anne Hathaway in Ralph Lauren

The dress itself is well-made and the fabric looks like liquid gold, but we just can't get on board with the hood.

Best: Poppy Delevingne in Marchesa

Poppy, wearing her namesake in a gown, is absolute perfection.

Worst: Chloe Sevigny in JW Anderson

We found this look to be over the top in all the wrong ways.

Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

Best: Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli

Williams is typically very "safe" on the red carpet, so we were thrilled to see her take a chance in this voluminous Giambattista Valli gown.

Best/Wildest: Solange in Giles

There's no way to call this a "worst," it's just too cool and out-there! Not really sure how it fits in with tonight's theme, but she positively glitters.

Worst: Kris Jenner in Balmain

Jenner's look was just a little too much... of just about everything.

Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

Worst: Chloe Moretz in Coach

Chalk this up as one of the more yawn-inducing dresses of the night.

Best: Diane Kruger in Chanel Haute Couture

This woman can do no wrong, and we're obsessed with this Chanel look.

We're Torn: Sarah Jessica Parker in H&M

SJP's headdress is ah-ma-zing, we're not denying that. Her dress, however, does nothing for us. What do you think? Sound off in the comments!

Worst: Kerry Washington in Prada

We LOVE Kerry, and love the risk she took with this voluminous gown, but it didn't strike the right chord for us. Perhaps it's the shoes?

Best: Keri Russell in Altuzarra

We LOVED this feathered creation on Keri, and the color was such a refreshing change for this red-dominated carpet.

Best: Katy Perry in Moschino

You can't deny that Katy loves to take a red carpet risk, and this dress was pretty darn cool. She pulled this one off!

Worst: Kim Kardashian in Roberto Cavalli

Kim's gown was so stunning last year, that we find ourselves disappointed with this one.  It's extremely intricate, but it just doesn't work for her.

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Worst: Lady Gaga in custom Balenciaga

Okay, it's a very cool piece. And it's very Lady Gaga. It's just too much for us!

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Best: Jennifer Lopez in Versace

The gown was a bit much for us when J.Lo turned to the side to reveal it was totally sheer, but the intricacies and ombre skirt won us over in the end. Plus, if anyone can pull off a gown like this, she can!

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Best: Miranda Kerr in custom Louis Vuitton

Not many people wear mini skirts on this red carpet, so it's totally refreshing when someone does -- and does it so well.

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Best: Sofia Vergara in Marchesa

Sofia is always gorgeous, but she looked positively ethereal in this classic sweetheart gown.

Worst: Jennifer Connelly in Louis Vuitton

We can appreciate the statement Connelly was trying to make with this gown, but it missed the mark.

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Best: Hailee Steinfeld in Michael Kors

Hailee may have chosen the most-worn color of the night, but her elegant gown was a win for us.

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Best: Carey Mulligan

Okay, so it doesn't really fit with the theme (much at all...) but Carey looks so elegant, she had to make our best dressed list.

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Best/Worst: Robert Pattinson in a black tux and FKA Twigs in Christopher Kane

Pattinson looked dapper as ever, but we're not big fans of FKA's graphic gown.

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Best: Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi

This look probably isn't easy to maneuver in safely (forever afraid someone will step on your train!) but it's just stunning. Zendaya looks youthful yet elegant in this incredible creation.

Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

Best: Usher

Hello handsome! Usher was looking very dapper in his all-black suit, and even though he needed his cane to support his foot post-surgery, it certainly added to the look.

Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

Worst: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen

It's not that the twins look bad per se, we just are always hoping for something exciting from them, and this was not the night.

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Best: Lizzy Caplan in Donna Karan

This gown draped so perfectly on Lizzy, she looked gorgeous.

Best: Gigi Hadid in Diane von Furstenberg

Gigi looked gorgeous in this gown by DVF, a moment where we certainly feel that simplicity won out.
