John Stamos expecting his first child with fiancée Caitlin McHugh: 'I'll be a fun dad'

John Stamos is headed for fatherhood!

The 54-year-old "Fuller House" actor revealed to People's Editor-in-Chief Jess Cagle that he and fiancée Caitlin McHugh are expecting their first child together, and the beloved star couldn't be more excited about the news.

"The look on John's face when I told him we were pregnant was priceless," McHugh told People. "It was the look of a man who has wanted a family of his own, but wasn't sure it was going to happen for him. Now it is!"

The couple said that they had "talked about" having a baby and that McHugh had suggested to Stamos they have a kid before they get married. When the former "Full House" star asked his then-girlfriend why, she said, "Because you're old."

Once McHugh revealed to Stamos that she was expecting, the actor sprung into action.

"The [pregnancy] happened. Then I said, I better have a ring on her finger because it's the right thing to do, and I wanted to marry her anyway," he explained. "So I called her parents to ask, and it was like, 'You better!'"

Stamos popped the question in as part of an elaborate engagement at Disneyland on October 22 after a little less than two years of dating.

"We have the same morals and the same values, that all clicked nicely," Stamos said of his relationship.

As for the prospect of being a father, it's something that Stamos has "always wanted."

"People would say, 'You should have a child,'" he recalled. "I was like, 'That ship has sailed.'"

But, now that his dreams have become his reality, he couldn't be more excited and joked that he's had more than enough experience with children. Between his time on "Full House" and its reboot "Fuller House," "Grandfathered" and "Glee," he's been involved in many projects with children and young adults.

"I'll be a fun dad," he said with a smile. "I've been practicing for a long time. I've done every schtick you can do with a baby on TV ... all the bits and jokes and diaper gags. I'll probably just do all that stuff."

And now that he has one on the way, does he see his family expanding even further?

"I think so," he finished. "Caitlin wants to have other kids, too."
