Could Prince William pass over his father Prince Charles to inherit the crown?

There have been some royal rumors that Queen Elizabeth could pass over Prince Charles and instead choose Prince William as her successor.

Headlines in August suggest that the move was in fact happening, however it's important to note that these accounts are completely false.

Charles will be Elizabeth's successor pending some unforeseen tragedy.

This is basically because the Queen really doesn't have any power, and to pass her throne onto William, she would have to change a law created in 1701.

The 1701 Act of Settlement requires that the current monarch's heir to the throne must be his or her direct successor.

It's also very likely that William doesn't want to be King yet. His brother Harry insinuated that in an interview with Newsweek.

"Is there any one of the royal family who wants to be king or queen?" he said. "I don't think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time."

So, it seems for now William isn't too eager to jump into the demanding role of being a King. Instead, he is taking his time and focusing his energies on his family, while his father remains first in line for the throne.
