Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have hired a surrogate to carry their third child

Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West are officially growing their family, as People reports that the couple has hired a surrogate to carry their third child. Not much more information is known.

The superstar couple already share daughter North, 4, and son Saint, 1, and Kardashian West has been outspoken about her desire to have a third kid, though she's been warned numerous times by doctors that it would be dangerous for her to carry another child.

Kardashian West suffers from placenta accreta, which the Mayo Clinic defines as a "serious pregnancy condition that occurs when blood vessels and other parts of the placenta grow too deeply into the uterine wall." When she gave birth to North, the 36-year-old had preeclampsia, which occurs in only about five percent of women. The condition forced her to deliver six weeks early to avoid more complications.

In a blog post she wrote before giving birth to her son, Kardashian West opened up about her increased risk of complication because of her condition.

"With the issues I had last time, my risk of having preclampsia and placenta acreeta are increased and there's not a whole lot I can do to prevent it," she wrote at the time. "So my anxiety is a little high leading up to my delivery. In a very rare case, I might need a hysterectomy after delivery if my condition is severe enough, but luckily my doctor doesn't think this will happen. So as time goes on, I am stressing out less and trying to go with the flow."

The KKW Beauty founder has been open about her struggles to conceive for a third time on her reality show "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and has even undergone surgery to increase her chances of conceiving. She has also asked multiple family members if they would consider being a surrogate for her and her husband.

As People notes, Kardashian West's shocking armed robbery in Paris last October only made her urgency and desire to have another child increase. She has said that her outlook on life was greatly changed by the traumatizing event and put everything in perspective for her.
