'Flip or Flop' star Christina El Moussa reveals that she suffered a miscarriage

Christina El Moussa is opening up about her doomed marriage with ex, Tarek, in a revealing new interview with People magazine.

Almost a year after they secretly split in May 2016, the "Flip or Flop" stars continue to make headlines as new claims surface about their relationship. Christina is now setting the record straight.

"I think the separation process begins long before people actually separate," she says. "So by the time we officially did, I felt like a weight was lifted off me."

The pair's marriage clearly wasn't without its obstacles. Tarek was diagnosed thyroid cancer just after their show debuted on HGTV back in 2013, and he revealed on the "Today" show on Tuesday morning that he was also battling testicular cancer at the same time.

They also had difficulty conceiving. Christina attempted to get pregnant through in vitro fertilization while her husband endured radiation, and she revealed to People that she suffered a miscarriage the year after his initial diagnosis. She then returned to work four weeks after successfully giving birth to their second child, Brayden.

"It was too soon for me," she says now. "I was overwhelmed. The tension between me and Tarek was high. [...] We weren't able to properly communicate anymore. It got to the point where we weren't even driving to set together."

Since news of their impending divorce went public last year, reports of infidelity, new romances and flings with the help have littered the couple's once-pristine reputations. But that's not something that Christina is interested in discussing -- especially with her ex.

"Tarek and I don't discuss each other's personal lives," she says. "It is what it is, and we are going through a divorce and eventually we will be dating other people. I'm happy for him and whatever steps he takes in his life, and I just hope he's happy."

As for their future? Christina said during an interview on "Good Morning America" on Tuesday morning that their children -- and their show -- remain their priorities.

"There's a lot of false stories and a lot of hype," she says. "But in the end we're just normal, nice people who just want to be the best parents and coworkers that we can be."

"We have so much fun on set and we look forward to continuing the show," she continues. "We met at work so we worked together before we ever started dating."
