Monique Lhuillier's Fall 2017 bridal collection is what dreams are made of

Monique Lhuillier is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her eponymous label this year, and she applied the same nostalgia of her Spring 2017 collection to Fall 2017 bridal, which she calls effortless.

"I wanted to start with pieces the I've done in the past," Monique told us backstage after the show, "so I looked at my archives and thought 'How would I make that relevant today?' To my surprise, a lot of them were still relevant!"

So how did she go about transforming the dresses for 2017?

"The biggest thing I did was I stripped out a lot of the linings, so they're more fluid, and the dresses are also more sheer. The bride now is a little more confident with her choices -- it's less about tradition and more about feeling the most beautiful in your dress."

With strapless dresses that were more sculpted in the front and scoop necklines with skinny straps, this seasons pieces were positively dreamy. Lhuillier also sent a few dresses down the runway in colors other than white -- a gorgeous mocha and pops of blush -- which she said she loves for bridal.

"I think blush is a staple now in bridal," she said. "It's all those subtleties and colors, that's what really makes a dress feel new -- and I think it's here to stay."

The gowns went down the runway at dusk -- in the gorgeous Carnegie Hall -- while a piano played acoustics of well-known love songs. Needless to say it was a stunning display of romance.
