Oday Shakar's mystical Spring 2017 collection embodies glamour

Oday Shakar showed his collection for the first time at New York Fashion Week this season, and it was met with rousing applause and cheers from the audience. A show that was clearly packed with some of his biggest fans -- including Whitney Port, seated front row -- the Spring 2017 offering did not disappoint.

"I've been drawing my whole life," Oday told us backstage, "I never really fit in with the boys so my fun time was sitting in my room and illustrating."

"My mother inspired me — her summers consisted of going to Germany or London shopping for a new wardrobe for the school year — she was (and still is) a very fashionable woman."

As for the collection itself, Oday described it as mystical. Filled with a combination of flowing, ethereal gowns and more structured, fitted dresses with geometric textures, it embodied his inspiration perfectly.

"I just think there's something about a woman that men don't have — that power of seduction... it's almost goddess-like and magical. Something that I feel has been lost in fashion these days is that enchantment, that fairytale feeling without actually feeling fairytale."
