If there's one thing we've learned, it's that things on the internet may not be what they seem.

One man was recently reminded of the internet's cruel deceptiveness when he began his search for a decorative touch for his home.

The item in question was a purple, fuzzy rug from the Chinese e-commerce company, Alibaba, and at just €2, or the equivalent of $2.26, it seemed like the steal of a lifetime.

It wasn't until he received the package in the mail that he realized the rug he ordered and the rug he got were in no way, shape, or form the same.

The fuchsia bathmat was a far cry from the royal purple area rug that he attempted to purchase to say the least. To highlight just how underwhelming his new decor was, he laid down next to it for scale, proving that there was no way it could be any more than three feet long.

He has since uploaded the epic internet fail to Reddit, where people have been quick to comment on the "expectation vs. reality" post.

Just remember, folks, online shopping is just like anything else in life -- if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
