A newborn baby was rescued from inside a Beijing public toilet after being placed head-first down the pipe of the toilet. The police discovered the abandoned child stuck in the sewer of the toilet after citizens called to report that they could hear a baby crying in the bathroom.

Devastating photos were released of a horrified police officer lifting the baby girl from the toilet. The baby's head was stuck in the pipe of the toilet when the police found her. Police officer Qian Feng said:

The baby survived the traumatic event and is now safe.

A search has been launched to find the mother of the baby girl. Because they found blood around the toilet bowl, the police reportedly believe that the mother gave birth in the toilet.

The baby has been taken to Beijing hospital and does not appear to have any injuries.
