LeBron challenged his two sons, LeBron Jr. and Bryce, as well as President Barack Obama. You have 24 hours, Mr. President. Obama was challenged last week by Ethel Kennedy, widow of Robert F. Kennedy. James then challenged President Barack Obama as well as his two sons, Bryce Maximum and LeBron Jr., to pour a bucket of ice over themselves or donate $100 to ALS research. Obama, however, turned down a challenge from Ethel Kennedy earlier this week. The president said he would donate instead. Undeterred, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony and Team USA Basketball issued subsequent challenges to Obama. The Ice Bucket Challenge has taken over social media the past few days, with members of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes also taking part. Over the past few weeks, the Internet has exploded with celebrities and regular folks alike participating in the 'ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.'

The challenge is meant to raise awareness and money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, and the premise is simple. Participants post a video of themselves being doused with ice water onto the social media platform of their choice and call for a friend to do the same, giving them 24 hours to complete the dare or donate $100 to ALS research.

According to the New York Times, the stunt has raised over $13.3 million for the ALS Association since July 29, compared to $1.7 million during the same period last year.

"We're heartened that the momentum of this incredible visibility continues," Barbara Newhouse, President and CEO of the ALS Association, said in a press statement. "We are so thankful for the generous outpouring of donations and people's interest in learning more about ALS."

This spike in donations and increased interest can partly be attributed to the high-level of celebrity involvement with the movement. With the exception of President Obama, who politely declined ("though his contribution to this effort will be monetary") in a released statement, every day a new movie star, pop singer or TV host adds a new video of he or she being pummeled with ice and drenched with water. So, we've decided to round up some of the best and some of the worst.

We lead our list with 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star Chris Pratt. His unusual take on the challenge, plus his wife's sneak bucket attack, made his video a fan favorite. Others in our top 16 include celebs who weren't afraid to get chilly with lots of ice and lots of screams.

Below, you can find our top 10 celeb fails. Jesse Tyler Ferguson of 'Modern Family' made us laugh with his checkbook stunt but ultimately failed to get wet. Oprah definitely had ice in her bucket, but the water level seemed a little lame to us. Others included stars who obviously had no ice in their water or kept on hats and shirts to do the dare.

Click through our galleries of the best and the worst and let us know what you think about our picks!

Lady Gaga Ice Bucket Challenge - Lady Gaga accepts the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Lady Gaga has recently accepted to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. This social media phenomenon involves dumping a pail of ice cold water over your head and then challenging three other people to do the same within 24 hours. If you do not accept the task, you will have to donate $100 to the ALS Association which fights amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It may seem like a silly social media meme, but it’s making a difference: The ALS Association reports that it, and its 38 chapters, received $4 million in donations in just two weeks. Last year during that same time period, (July 29-August 12), the association brought in $1.1 million. After accepting the challenge, Lady Gaga followed the rules and picked four more people: Adele, Michael Rapino, Vincent Herbert, and Arthur Fogel. While Banks’ reaction to the ice water was pretty great, doing it in the shower seemed a little too “safe.”
Emmy Rossum takes the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS The Shameless star certainly lived up to the show's moniker as she promoted the National ALS Association's Ice Bucket Challenge in a particularly eye-catching ensemble. She has never been considered an ice queen. But that will surely change after a bikini-clad Emmy Rossum gave her fans a thrill by soaking herself with freezing water as she took part in a charity drive on Thursday. The Shameless star certainly lived up to the show's moniker as she promoted the National ALS Association's Ice Bucket Challenge in a particularly eye-catching ensemble. The perky 27-year-old seemed rather confident as she cheerfully posed in her tiny blue and pink bikini top and skimpy hotpants. However it was not long before she was gasping for air in shock after unloading a massive basin full of cold water over herself. While she was undoubtedly Thursday's most aesthetically pleasing participant, there were other big names taking part. For the cast of Grey's Anatomy got in on the action by pouring large buckets of the cold stuff over their heads while wearing their hospital scrubs. The show's star Ellen Pompeo and strapping Scots hunk Kevin McKidd were among those taking part in the hilarious clip, which she posted on her Instagram page. She also seemed to be throwing down the gauntlet, as she also posted it to series creator Shonda Rimes, Kerry Washington and the official Scandal page. In just two weeks the challenge has helped raise $4 million for the Association, which helps sufferers of amyotrophic lateral sclerosisa, a neurodegenerative disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. Other big names that have taken part include chart star Justin Timberlake, cheesy Extra host Mario Lopez and country and western favourite Keith Urban. Perhaps the best so far was on Wednesday night's Late Night With Seth Meyers, which saw Mickey Rourke test his hairpiece to the limit as he got soaked while sitting in a children's paddling pool.
