Soldier fights for dog after ex-girlfriend sold him on Craigslist

Deployed Soldier To Get Back Dog After Girlfriend Sold It On Craigslist

A soldier fighting in Afghanistan was simultaneously fighting a battle to get his dog back after his ex-girlfriend sold him on Craigslist.

Back in March, Robert Gabbert was deployed overseas and left his three-year-old Shiba Inu, Baxter, with his then-girlfriend. Then for some inexplicable reason, she sold his dog on Craigslist.

When Gabbert's family discovered Baxter was missing, the soldier posted on Craigslist, "I am currently deployed, and my ex sold my dog. I just found out, and I am trying to find the people (person) who bought him. I will pay anything to get him back."

His family launched a social media campaign to locate the dog, and the story quickly gained national attention. Baxter's new owners were eventually identified, though they initially refused to negotiate the option of returning him.

They were even offered $14,000, but now the Washington Post is reporting that the family is buckling under the pressure and has agreed to return Baxter. The exchange has not yet taken place.

Gabbert has another six months left in his deployment.

Those people should just give him back for what they paid for him. That would be the right thing to do.

The new owners sound as bad as the ex-girlfriend.

Good reason the girl is an X. I hope he does get his dog back. That's lower than low to sell his dog. :(

Indicates how she was raised. Look to the parents for the failure to teach the lowlife how to be a good person. She probably thought she was being "cute," while all she was doing was showing how cruel she could be. Bet the money is gone and now she is left with living with her sorry selfish self..

Sounds like she was wolfing down some seriously sour grapes. If that was HIS dog that he brought into the relationship, who was she to sell it? She should've just dumped it as his parents house if she was over him.

Sounds like larceny or theft on the girlfriends part, and receiving stolen goods on the buyers part. Once they learned the dog was stolen, they had an obligation to return it. The ex should be required to return the money they paid.

I think I have seen notices on Craigslist about NOT selling live animals on the list. Wonder if there is some legal recourse that this soldier can take on both the x nasty btxh and the people that bought the dog.

How can someone keep a dog that is proven to be sold without the permission of the owner? Were is there loss if they are given there money back. Those people are even
more mean then the girlfriend who sold the dog.
