Zillow Gone Wild is fixated on this ‘old world’ castle in Kansas. ‘Definitely haunted’
An estate with a classic, European-style look has popped up on the real estate market in Wichita, Kansas, for $3.5 million.
It’s named The Campbell Castle. And while it’s 134 years old, it has a very modern history of gracing short-term vacation rental websites like VRBO and Airbnb and has even served as an upscale restaurant and wedding venue, the listing on Zillow.com says.
“The Campbell Castle was built from 1886 to 1888 by Colonel Burton Harvey Campbell and his wife Ellen, and is reportedly an authentic reproduction of a Richardsonian Romanesque Scottish Castle,” the listing details. “The Castle and adjacent Carriage House boast approximately 15,000 square feet of living and mechanical spaces and approximately two acres of landscaped grounds and is beautifully nestled on the banks of the Little Arkansas River adjacent to the nearby city parks.”
The home has a whopping 17 bedrooms and 19 bathrooms and the interior decor is made up of “numerous structural antiques” that were imported from Europe, including:
Fireplaces
German stained glass
Grand staircase
Hand carved fretwork
Other jaw-dropping features include:
Vaulted ceilings
Limestone walls
Bathtubs in six of the bedrooms
Chef’s kitchen
Formal dining room
Solarium
Coffee bar
Wet bar
Balconies
The castle was featured on the popular real estate social media page Zillow Gone Wild whose fans were awestruck by the “old world” feel the residence displays.
“Stunning and very old world,” one person commented. “I love that each bedroom is so unique. I saw somebody else mention this is or could be a B&B and I have to agree. What a neat place to stay.”
“I used to live in Wichita for college and drove past this place everyday,” another said. “The pictures hardly do it justice. It’s really gorgeous.”
“Love this. Decor is appropriate to the house (as is the kitchen),” someone commented. “One feature I really liked in large old houses is the butler’s pantry. I see one right in the corner off the kitchen. Would be nice for small events.”
“For the low price of $3.5 million, you too can have the perfect place for your murder mystery costume parties* or ‘Knives Out’ role play weekend*. *Liability waiver required,” someone tweeted.
“Definitely haunted,” one person joked.
