Zendaya might be an incredibly successful, household name but no one can accuse her of being out of touch.

Appearing on Good Morning America, the actor revealed she knew all about the viral meme which highlighted the link between herself, Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone.

The meme shows all three leading ladies in their Spider-Man roles next to images of them in their respective tennis movies, pointing out their similar career choices.

When asked if she'd seen the meme, Zendaya admitted she had. "Now you've all gone on to play a role as a tennis player. What's this pipeline?" asked host Robin Roberts.

"I don't know. We were joking [and] I was like, 'Maybe it's some prophecy I need to fulfil,'" replied Zendaya.

She laughed at how strange of a coincidence it was, adding: "It's quite funny, isn't that? I don't know. I guess it worked out for all of them, so!"

Kirsten Dunst was the first actor to play Spider-Man's love interest Mary Jane Watson (MJ), alongside Tobey Maguire from 2002-2007. When the franchise was rebooted from 2012-2014 with Andrew Garfield as The Amazing Spider-Man, it was Emma Stone who took the role of heroine Gwen Stacy.

Dunst and Stone went on to star in Wimbledon and Battle of the Sexes, respectively. The current Spider-Man is played by Tom Holland, with Zendaya starring as MJ (Michelle Jones).

Now Challengers sees Zendaya take on the role of Tashi Duncan, a former tennis pro turned coach. As Tashi tries to revive her husband Art's (Mike Faist) tennis career, he has to compete against his former friend Patrick (Josh O'Connor) – who also happens to be Tashi's ex.

Digital Spy's review called the movie "the most exciting tennis match you will ever see."

Challengers is out now in cinemas.
