Zeeland West's Isabel Assink heads to NCAA Division I ranks for track and field

Zeeland West's Isabel Assink took a huge step in scoring at the state finals.

As a junior, she finished ninth in the state in discus and also make the state finals in the shot put.

That success didn't go unnoticed.

Assink recently committed to Central Michigan University to compete in track and field at the NCAA Division I level.

Assink still has one more high school season to go - with some unfinished business.

"It was a season of almosts as she just missed breaking the school record in shot by a few inches, and also just missed all-state honors in disc by a few inches," Zeeland West coach Aaron Kenemer said. "However, I'm so proud of her season, not only for her throwing, but more by being a good teammate."
