Zeeland East, West teams split rivalry showdown on track behind stellar performances
ZEELAND - Two of the top track and field teams in the state clashed in the annual Zeeland East-Zeeland West showdown on Thursday at Zeeland Stadium.
The Zeeland East girls defeated Zeeland West 81.5-55.5 on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Zeeland West boys beat East 105-32.
In the girls meet, the Chix used its strengths in the distance, jumps and throws to take the win.
Zeeland East's Emma Drnek won the 800 meters (2:21.70) and 1,600 (5:11.74). Allison Kuzma won the 3,200 (11:57.90). Anna Tilden won the discus in 135 feet, 9 inches. Brienna Cole and Mirra Fenlon went 4-10 in the high jump with Cole winning on attempts. Fenlon won the long jump in 16-0 1/2, ahead of teammate Elyse Smith (15-8 1/4). Katie Murphy won the pole vault (8-0).

East's Lesley Martinez, Terra Schubert, Cece Huizingh and Meredith Cook won the 4x200 (1:50.14). Cook, Kuzma, Drnek and Taryn DiLaura won the 4x800 (9:40.33).
Zeeland West's Avari Peddie won the 100 meters (12.81) in a personal best and won the 200 in 26.74 and 400 in 1:01.04. Kendall Ruster won the 100 hurdles (16.76). Amaya Brott won the 300 hurdles (49.76). Isabel Assink won the shot put (37-8).
West's Elysia Alejandro, Jordin Robelin, Ruster and Adelyn Oberst won the 4x100 relay (52.51). Evie Kleinheksel, Greta Hondorp, Brott and Peddie won the 4x400 (4:11.86).
In the boys meet, Zeeland West's Brandon Holman (11.30) and Rolando Robelin (11.34) went 1-2 in a quick 100 meters. Robelin won the 200 meters in 22.70. Micah Henry won the 400 (51.32). Jack DeKruyter won the 800 (2:07.05) and 1,600 (4:36.72). Robert Dott claimed victory in the 3,200 (10:06.91).
Keaton Hendericks won the 110-meter hurdles (14.81) and the 300 hurdles (40.29) for the Dux as well as the long jump (19-10). Nick Lloyd won thd high jump at 6-0, winning the battle in number of attempts with Orion Yant and Merritt Alderink, who also reached 6-0. Ethan Faucher won the pole vault (12-0).
Gael Garcia, Robelin, Parker Holman and Trey Sloothaak won the 4x100 relay (44.16). Robelin, Henry, Garcia and Hendricks won the 4x200 (1:31.21). Carson Hauch, AJ Sneller, Keagan Smith and DeKruyter won the 4x800 (8:21.42).
Zeeland West's Carson Arnould won the discus with a throw of 156 feet, 9 inches, holding off two Chix state qualifiers.
Zeeland East's Levi Bannach, Tristen Hinson, Luke Nagelkirk and Kameron Compagner wont he 4x400 (3:32.58).
The Chix went 1-2-3-4 in the shot put with Garrett Weeden (56-2 1/2), Parker Williams (51-8), Karsten Meyer (43-3 1/2) and Gabe Amid (41-7 1/2). Weeden was second in discus (154-7) ahead of Williams (140-11).
