Zaxby’s newest menu item is a first for the chicken chain. When can you get it?

Zaxby’s is best known for its chicken but is now trying its hand at seafood.

Southern fried shrimp is the latest limited-time offering to roll out at the Georgia-based chicken chain, according to a March 21 news release. It hit menus Thursday at participating Zaxby’s restaurants nationwide.

The crispy shrimp, “breaded with garlic and onion powder, seasoned with pepper and buttermilk, and fried,” are a first for the fast-food restaurant.

Customers can order the shrimp as a side or a combo meal, featuring eight fried shrimp, Texas toast, fries and a drink, the restaurant said.

Both options are served with the new “Zaxtail” sauce — a combination of the restaurant’s signature Zax sauce, cocktail sauce and a hint of horseradish.

It’s just the latest addition to Zaxby’s menu. In February, the chain teased the return of its fan-favorite milkshakes as part of an exclusive, limited-time test in Macon, Georgia.

Zaxby’s southern fried shrimp is available for a limited time, though the chain didn’t say for how long. Pricing information also wasn’t available.
