Zack Snyder offers update on Army of the Dead 2

Army of the Dead director Zack Snyder has shared an update on the zombie flick's upcoming sequel.

Speaking to Digital Spy ahead of Rebel Moon's release this Friday (December 15), the filmmaker expressed his hopes to alternate between working on his planned Rebel Moon trilogy and Army of the Dead franchise.

"My hope is to get to a point where we can kind of go back and forth between the two. If that was in the stars, that would be cool," he said.

Given that Rebel Moon is nearly here, Army of the Dead 2 could very well be the next project Snyder starts working on.

Synder also revealed that, upon finishing the first Army of the Dead movie, he weighed the decision of either moving on to the sequel or shifting his focus to Rebel Moon.

"I have amazing partners at Netflix. When I finished Army, they were like, 'What do you want to do now?' I said, 'Well, maybe an Army sequel, or, if I might – there's this thing I've been wanting to do. It's a sci-fi. It might be two, it might be a trilogy, it might be more'," he shared.

He continued: "They surprisingly were very keen and enthusiastic. So I think the incredible opportunity to make [Rebel Moon] was cool, but it was also daunting at the same time.

"So I feel this sense of relief, but also this sense that I'm standing on the brink of what could be a lot of work as well, but it's exciting."

Army of the Dead debuted on Netflix in 2021, following a group of mercenaries who venture into a zombie-infested quarantine zone in the hopes of pulling off a heist.

The sequel is titled Planet of the Dead, though further plot and cast details are yet to be announced.

Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire is in select cinemas from December 15 and is released on Netflix on December 22.
