Zack Snyder Is Up For Making A Fortnite Movie

Fortnite Skulldrifter

Fortnite is all the rage right now – and has been for the past five years, just in case you haven’t been paying attention – and since we’re in a golden(ish) age of video game film adaptations, many have been looking to Fortnite as a potential contender for the next okay-ish adaptation. As it happens, Zack Snyder would be totally okay with that.

In an interview with Etalk, Snyder professed his love for Fortnite, saying it was an amazing world, and hoping to get some skins for his recent movie Rebel Moon into the game. That probably won’t happen, given how much of a gigantic flop that’s been critically, but a Fortnite movie? That’s certainly not off the table.

“I really wanted to make some Fortnite skins for [Rebel Moon] first of all,” Snyder said in the interview, “Just like, as the most obviously basic involvement. But yeah, look, Fortnite is an amazing world, and it is an amazing distraction for me.”

Snyder apparently plays the game, saying that he was surprised at how unique it was. He said he thought he knew what he was getting himself into, but it turned out to be something entirely different, and praised the game’s “unique alchemy.”

He’d be up for directing a potential Fortnite movie, too, though was pretty noncommittal in the specifics.

“You definitely don’t know,” Snyder said, “You definitely can never say never, that’s my mantra in this business.”

Fortnite recently expanded its scope in a gigantic way, adding a full Lego Fortnite mode that’s more or less just Minecraft with a Lego coat of paint, a rhythm game from Rock Band developer Harmonix, and a kart racing Rocket League spinoff called Rocket Racing. All of these sub-games are accessible within the Fortnite app, making it a pretty attractive place to hang out digitally.

That was apparently always the plan, too. Former Fortnite loremaster and CCO Donald Mustard shared the game’s early metaverse ambitions in a post on Twitter recently. Mustard showed a picture of an early concept for the game, showing plans for multiple different game does within Fortnite, something that has evidently come true now after years of work (and acquisitions).
