A shooting just after a youth football practice left a coach dead and another person injured, Ohio police said.

Jermaine Knox, 37, was leaving the youth football practice he coached in College Park, Cincinnati, about 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, WCPO reported. A person approached Knox and began shooting, Fox 19 reported, citing police.

Knox was fatally shot and another victim injured, the Cincinnati Police Department said in an Oct. 19 news release.

The other victim, an adult, was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Cincinnati police told WLWT. The victim was shot in the leg, according to Fox 19.

At the time of the shooting, kids were in the area, WCPO reported. The two people shot were by their cars in the street, WLWT and Fox 19 reported.

“It’s just devastating,” the father of a youth football player told WLWT. “(Knox) was like a pinnacle and a cornerstone of youth football. He was one of those guys, the biggest name… It just hurts. He was such a good dude.”

“He’s gonna be a huge loss to these kids, their parents, their families,” one person who knew Knox told WCPO. “He was all about the kids.”

Cincinnati police are conducting a homicide investigation but no suspects have been identified.

Cincinnati is about 110 miles southwest of Columbus.
