Young Sheldon Sneak Peek: George and Mary’s Relationship Takes a Surprising Turn — Watch Video

If TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek is any indication, Thursday’s Young Sheldon (CBS, 8/7c) will prove the hypothesis that distance makes the heart grow fonder.

Mary (Zoe Perry) remains in Heidelberg with Sheldon in Season 7, Episode 3 — and long-distance calls are awfully expensive for the working-class Coopers. So, George Sr. (Lance Barber) decides write his wife a letter, just like he did while he was stationed in Vietnam. (Romantic, ain’t it?)

As seen in the clip above, George lights up when he receives a response from Mary. Mary, meanwhile, sounds genuinely touched by her husband’s gesture. It’s a far cry from where we left them last season, when a run-in between George and Brenda Sparks, and Mary and Pastor Rob, nearly torpedoed their marriage on the same day that Georgie and Mandy’s daughter CeeCee was born. Addressing that scene, executive producer Steve Holland told TVLine at the time that “we know we have… another season coming, so it was our chance to blow things up [between George and Mary] and allow some rebuilding to happen.”

Elsewhere in Thursday’s episode, titled “A Strudel and a Hot American Boy Toy,” Sheldon explores Germany behind Mom’s back, Missy attempts to pull a fast one on Dad, and Meemaw and Dale adjust to living together. It’s the third of 14 episodes that comprise Young Sheldon‘s seventh and final season, which will conclude with a one-hour series finale (consisting of Episodes 13 and 14) on May 16.
