New York Yankees Announce Significant Roster Move
The New York Yankees have lost eight of their last nine games and will need to battle hard to get a Wildcard spot in the playoffs. In an effort to fix some issues, the Yankees are making a pretty significant roster move.
According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Yankees are moving shortstop Gleyber Torres to second base. Torres is coming off a brutal week where he made four errors.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed the move, citing a need to “take pressure off” amid Torres’ recent struggles. Tyler Wade will start at shortstop for Monday’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
“Try to take a little pressure off him,” Boone said, via the New York Post. “We’ll give that a look.”
The two-time All-Star has already committed a career-high 18 fielding errors this year.

At the plate, Gleyber Torres has been alright, but not quite as good as he was between 2018 and 2019. He has a .252 batting average, 98 hits, 18 doubles and seven home runs. But his on-base percentage is a career-low .323.
Meanwhile, the Yankees have fallen behind in the Wild Card race due to their recent slump. They’re 79-64 and effectively out of AL East contention, but only three games behind for the final Wild Card spot.
Yankees fans can only hope that these changes give the team that much-needed boost as they make their playoff push.
