New York lawmakers mourn death of FDNY firefighter Timothy Klein in Brooklyn blaze
New York’s federal lawmakers Monday joined in mourning the death of FDNY firefighter Timothy Klein in a ferocious Brooklyn blaze
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he is “heartbroken” by the death of Klein, who became trapped when the inferno suddenly engulfed the second floor of the home in Canarsie on Sunday.
“He’s a hero who bravely served the people of New York. We are praying for him, his family, his fellow firefighters, and everyone who knew and loved him.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) who represents Canarsie in Brooklyn, paid tribute to Klein, his five FDNY colleagues who were injured in the fire, and all the first responders.
“May God watch over all those affected during this tragic time,” Jeffries said Sunday in a statement.
Rep. Grace Meng (D-N.Y.) said she was praying for Klein and his family. The six-year FDNY veteran was the son of a retired FDNY smoke eater.
“This brave hero made the ultimate sacrifice for our city,” Meng said.
FDNY firefighter and Brooklyn resident die in ferocious Canarsie blaze
Klein, 31, died while trying to knock down the blaze at the home on Avenue N near E. 108th St. in Canarsie that erupted about 1:40 p.m.
Klein was cut down when the building ceiling collapsed; the critically injured firefighter was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn but could not be saved.
The body of a tenant in the building was also later found inside the charred wreckage.
There was no immediate word on a possible cause.
