York fire crew rescue man stuck in Wetherspoon pub loo

Firefighters were called to a Wetherspoon pub to rescue a man who had become trapped in a toilet cubicle.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said they were contacted by staff at The Punch Bowl, in Blossom Street, York, at about 21:20 BST on Monday.

The unfortunate man had managed to alert staff to his predicament, but they had been unable to free him.

The fire service said it took four minutes to release the customer using a screwdriver for the door's lock.

Such callouts happened "quite infrequently", a spokesperson added.
