York County Student of the Week: Vote for one of these fantastic students

Here's your chance to vote for the York Daily Record and Evening Sun Student of the Week!

Each week, York County school districts have the opportunity to nominate high school students whose hard work deserves recognition.

We will provide brief bios of each nominee's accomplishments, and our readers can vote on who they think should be recognized.

Submissions must come from school officials, so if you know a student whose good work deserves recognition, reach out to teachers or administrators and encourage them to nominate your student.

Vote for your choice in the poll below. Voting opens at 5 a.m. Monday, April 29 and closes at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 2.

This week's nominees:

Elizabeth Bodvin, a senior in the South Western High School Music Department, is a member of the Women's Chorus, Concert Choir, Singchronicity, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Marching Band and Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her ensembles, Elizabeth is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, where she serves as the historian. Along with Elizabeth's multiple music accomplishments, she has also been the Key Club President for the past two years, an involved member of the National Honor Society, and a Mini-THON captain. Elizabeth plans to attend High Point University for Elementary Education.

Chad Heaps, a junior at Kennard-Dale High School, is a hard-working student who strives for excellence in academics. He is an inquisitive, thoughtful and respectful student. He is conscientiously planning for success in his future endeavors.

Mitchell Kilgore, a senior at York Catholic High School, is a Distinguished Honor Roll student and is ranked academically in the Top 10 of his senior class. He is involved in Volleyball, Student Council, Spanish Club, and the Musical, while working a part-time job. Mitchell always has a smile on his face and is willing to help wherever needed. His enthusiasm is contagious and his leadership is exemplary. Mitchell plans to attend Penn State University to study Biomedical Engineering.

Meilynn Poletti, a Central York High School student, has earned the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Girl Scout Gold Award, for the 2024 Gold Award class. Meilynn's project, “Passion for M.U.S.I.C,” focused on addressing a lack of music education resources. Poletti created a program for local at-risk elementary school students, teaching them about different instruments and leading them in creating their own. She devoted a minimum of 80 hours to problem-solve, plan, and implement her ideas for change.
