The York County SPCA to host half-price dog adoption event May 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The York County SPCA will host a half-price dog adoption event Sunday, May 26 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brougher Companion Animal Shelter, 3159 Susquehanna Trail N. in Manchester Township.
In recent weeks, the shelter has been operating at full capacity and applications for new adoptions are down, according to Kristen Dempwolf, communications director, adding that there are also 43 dogs in foster care, a record for the shelter.
You can check out the website for a sneak a peek of all the pups waiting for their forever homes via this direct link at ycspca.org
The shelter recommends filling out an adoption questionnaire at this spca.org link by Thursday prior to your arrival.
Please note your top four to five dog picks from the website before visiting. You can also browse the kennel if you are unsure who you want to meet.
The shelter suggests bringing your whole household along — humans and canines — to meet their potential housemates and suggests keeping your dogs comfy in the car with the A/C on until it's time for introductions. You can take them for a walk in the grassy areas near the parking lot.
Staff reminds adoptees to bring a collar and leash for your dogs, If possible, opt for a slip-lead leash or a regular collar and leash over retractable ones. They will have some for sale, but supplies are limited.
Check in at the welcome table before browsing available dogs in the kennel.
While most dogs will be ready to go home on the event day, some may need to be picked up later due to necessary vaccinations, spaying/neutering, or medical care.
The SPCA only accept cashless payments for dog licenses, collars and leashes.
