York County couple, married for 48 years, dies after motorcycle wreck in Virginia: police

A York couple has died after suffering life-threatening injuries in a motorcyle crash earlier this month, according to Virginia State Police.

William R. Winemiller, 69, died on Saturday, May 11 at Valley Health Winchester Medical Center, according to an obituary and state police. His wife, Jane L. Winemiller, 67, succumbed to her injuries on Friday, May 17 at the same facility.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. May 3 near the intersection of Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) and Route 7 Bus. (West Main Street) in Clarke County, state police said.

William Winemiller was driving a 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Route 7 when it rear-ended a 2018 Honda Civic, which was stopped for a red light, state police said. Both the husband and wife were wearing helmets.

The driver of the car, a 45-year-old man from Berryville, Va., was not injured, state police said. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation, state police said.

The couple had been married for 48 years and were retired, their obituary states. William had worked for Shipley Energy, and Jane had been employed by the Dallastown Area School District. They also had helped numerous family businesses over the years.

William and Jane Winemiller are survived by two sons and four grandsons as well as other relatives, the obituary states.

Services are planned for Tuesday at New Fairview Church in York Township, according to the obituary.
