Yelp ranks these four Austin staples among the top 100 local businesses in the US

Despite a burgeoning tech economy Austin has managed to maintain its reputation as a city with a thriving local business economy.

The latest local business ranking from Yelp only confirms this as four Austin-area staples featured on this year's list — the most of any city in Texas.

From auto works to home decor, the ATX businesses featured on the list represent an eclectic local economy. Here are the businesses that made the list as well as how Yelp determined who made the cut.

What Austin businesses made Yelp's Top 100 Local Businesses list?

Dentworks

Trey Pool and his team at Dentworks of Austin have been serving the Austin community since 1995 with paintless dent repairs that have garnered a reputation for reliability.

Boasting a 5-star rating on Yelp with 187 reviews, customers of Dentworks have commented on the company’s effectiveness and honesty.

Take Heart

Take Heart is an Austin boutique that is perfect for finding a unique card or a handmade piece of pottery. Located in East Austin the shop was started by Nina Gordan who said that it has been her dream to open a store since she was a child.

Take Heart currently has 4.7 stars on Yelp after 84 reviews since it opened. The store is intended to have an international feel with an emphasis on Japanese design and craftsmanship.

Paws on Chicon

Paws on Chicon was started in 2018 by Austin Eastsider Keith Zeiler and has since blossomed into a staple for Austin’s pet owners — of which there is an abundance.

The pet shop has a 4.9 rating on Yelp with 127 reviews and offers a varied selection of dog and cat food, treats and supplements, along with specialty items and services.

Hart's Steam Cleaning

The only business outside of Austin proper, Hart’s Steam Cleaning in Leander is a commercial deep cleaning service started by David Hart. The company also provides move-in and move-out cleanings and carpet stain removal.

The business has 266 reviews and a 4.9 rating on Yelp. As many of the reviews point out, Hart’s has used its excellent customer service to build its reputation throughout Austin.

How did Yelp rank local businesses?

Yelp identified 10 categories that helped measure the performance of small businesses and how customers interact with them. Using these 10 categories they then used their Yelp ratings to determine the 10 best-performing businesses in each category.

“We then ranked these businesses using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews. We only included one business per state per individual category for geographic diversity,” the company said in an outline of the rankings.
