‘Yellowjackets’ Season 2: Here’s What We Know So Far

Ever since Yellowjackets season 2 was confirmed, the internet has been abuzz with burning questions and wild theories. Does the show really have supernatural elements? Is it possible that Jackie is still alive? What really happened to those girls in the woods?

We may not have the answers yet, but we’re confident that season two will fill in the gaps. As we (impatiently) await new episodes, here’s what we know so far about the upcoming season of the Showtime series.

Showtime

1. What is Yellowjackets season 2 about?

Just five episodes into season one, Showtime announced that Yellowjackets will return for season two. And while there’s no official logline, the creators and cast have since dropped several hints about the plot.

Show creator Ashley Lyle told Variety that it’ll further explore a story line from the end of season one. She said, “We are definitely revisiting the winter storyline. We’ve been calling season two ‘The Winter of Their Discontent.'” FYI, this is a clever reference to John Steinbeck’s namesake book and William Shakespeare’s Richard III.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Christina Ricci, who plays Misty, also teased that fans won’t know what’s coming. "The first couple scripts had the entire cast gasping," Ricci said. "So, it's even wilder: more crazy, more shocking, and really compelling and fun." We. Can’t. Wait.

2. Who will star in Yellowjackets season 2?

The adult ensemble cast, which includes Melanie Lynskey (Shauna), Christina Ricci (Misty), Juliette Lewis (Natalie) and Tawny Cypress (Taissa), is set to return for the second season. Sophie Nelisse (Teen Shauna), Samantha Hanratty (Teen Misty), Sophie Thatcher (Teen Natalie) and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Teen Taissa) will also reprise their roles.

Of course, there will be newcomers. Simone Kessell will portray the adult version of Lottie, Lauren Ambrose will play the adult version of Van and Elijah Wood will play Walter, a new character who will “challenge Misty in ways she won't see coming," according to a press release from Showtime.

3. Is there a trailer?

There sure is. Showtime dropped the first official trailer earlier this year, which shows adult Natalie being put under hypnosis. When she’s asked to look into her past and explain what she sees, she says: “Darkness. We brought it back with us.”

Looks like the new season will bring plenty more dark rituals and cryptic scenes…

4. Is there a premiere date for Yellowjackets season 2?

Yes! Mark your calendar, because Yellowjackets season 2 will premiere on Showtime on March 24. Let the countdown begin.

5. Has Yellowjackets season 3 already been confirmed?

Thankfully, fans won’t have to bid farewell to the girls anytime soon. Per Deadline, Chris McCarthy (president of Showtime and Paramount Media Networks)  said, “With Yellowjackets’ runaway success in season one and the pent-up anticipation for season two, we wanted to maximize the momentum by fast-tracking season three now. The show’s ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley, Bart, Jonathan, eOne and the Showtime team, for turning this into such a success.”
