Yara Shahidi Stepped Out in New York City Looking Like a Literal Angel
Yara Shahidi just stepped out in one of her best looks yet, arriving to the Good Morning America studio in New York City on Monday morning looking like an IRL angel in a white blazer and feather skirt, which she paired with nude pumps:
Yara chatted to GMA about being the first Black actor to play Tinkerbell in Peter Pan, saying "It's really surreal and full circle, because I started in print ads and commercials, and some of the first things I did were Disney ads. And I would dress up as the princesses and different characters, but I was always the Black version of a character because none of them looked like me. So to be a part of, not only this movie, but really a movement of so many fairy tales being retold to look like our world, is really exciting because those are the first stories we hear growing up."
Yara also said she looked to Josephine Baker for inspiration when it came to Tinker Bell's "visual language," saying "A lot of her performances are things that me and the director looked at because she's so expressive with saying no words. And that was kind of the challenge of playing Tinker Bell, was just chiming in fairy language the whole time."
