Yankees Have Reportedly Made An Offer For 1 Major Trade Target
The New York Yankees are expected to continue adding players leading up to Friday’s trade deadline, and they’ve reportedly made an offer for Colorado Rockies star Trevor Story.
ESPN’s Buster Olney reported last week that the Yankees were one of the teams to check in on Story, a three-time All-Star who will be a free agent after the season. Now, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman says the team officially extended an offer for the coveted shortstop.
“Yankees made a trade offer for Trevor Story. No evidence of any traction there at this point,” Heyman tweeted. “Rockies haven’t definitively decided to trade him, though it would seem there’s a good chance they do.”

Story is having somewhat of a down year, slashing .242/.313/.425 heading into tonight’s game. He does have 12 home runs, 46 RBI, and 17 steals in 85 games.
If the Yankees are to acquire Story, it will allow them to move Gleyber Torres back to second base, where he’s played his best ball at the MLB level. That would leave D.J. LeMahieu, Story’s former teammate in Colorado, manning first base.
New York could then opt to trade first baseman Luke Voit, who is currently on the injured list. The Yankees already made one move today, dealing for Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Clay Holmes in exchange for minor league infielders Hoy Park and Diego Castillo.
